“There might be some concerns,” as Viv Richards astutely advises India at the World Cup

In an effort to win a third World Cup this year, undefeated India has been advised by two-time World Cup champion Sir Vivian Richards to remain upbeat and attack at all costs.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-278008″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-there-might-be-some-concerns-as-viv-richards-astutely-advises-india-at-the-world-c.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com there might be some concerns as viv richards astutely advises india at the world c” width=”911″ height=”606″ title=”"There might be some concerns," as Viv Richards astutely advises India at the World Cup 3″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-there-might-be-some-concerns-as-viv-richards-astutely-advises-india-at-the-world-c.jpg 275w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/11/theindiaprint.com-there-might-be-some-concerns-as-viv-richards-astutely-advises-india-at-the-world-c-150×100.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 911px) 100vw, 911px” />

India has dominated the 13th World Cup this year, winning all eight of their matches to guarantee their place in the semi-finals the following week.

Richards, who is recognized as one of the most colorful and aggressive players of all time after leading the West Indies to World Cup victories in 1975 and 1979, wants India to keep playing to their advantages and push aside any bad ideas as they look to maintain their winning ways and build on their 1983 and 2011 titles.

Richards said in his ICC blog that “India have a mindset that they can go all the way playing like this.”

Let’s go out with all guns blazing. That is exactly how they should think, and if I were in that dressing room, it is how I would think too. Thus far, that strategy has been effective; if it changes, things could not go as planned.

“I think they can win every game, which is really something to aim for. Some people may be worried that even though they have performed so brilliantly so far, the semifinal match might still be awful. They must make an effort to disprove them and get rid of any bad ideas.

Richards has always been a fan of Virat Kohli, but the West Indies great acknowledges that he also likes Shubman Gill because the India opener brings back memories of his own style of play.

Richards holds the record for the highest rating in ODI cricket history, having accrued 935 rating points by the end of 1985. Gill rose to the top of the ODI Batter Rankings last week, surpassing Pakistan captain Babar Azam.

Richards said, “Shubman Gill is just one of a whole bunch of players who have all the big shots. He bats with style as well.”

“I just hope nobody forgets that there once was a man named Vivian Richards who went out and played like that without a helmet!

“With the possible exception of the reverse sweep, which would have been foolish without the lid on, some of the shots played today are ones I’d like to believe I had in my arsenal.

“As a fan, I’m happy with where the game is at right now, even though the game has advanced significantly. I’d like to think my scoring rate matches up with the guys playing today.”
