The long-awaited mythological drama Adipurush, which is based on the epic Ramayana, is finally set to hit cinemas this Friday. The protagonist Raghava or Lord Ram is played by Prabhas in this national award-winning movie directed by Om Raut. In the movie, Sita, also known as Janaki, is portrayed by Kriti Sanon.
Because the Nepal Censor Board objected to a line that claimed Goddess Sita was India’s daughter, the movie’s release in that country was delayed. According to the board, Sita was born in Nepal. After the decision to cut the language, the movie will now be able to be shown in Nepal.
Rahul Raut’s tweet that “The Nepal government has objected to the scene where the film claims Goddess Sita was the daughter of India, when she was actually BORN IN NEPAL” made headlines once the news broke. Because of the issue, the Censor Board has decided not to distribute it there until it has been fixed.
A short while afterwards, he tweeted again, noting that “UPDATE!! #Adipurush is currently released in Nepal… After the contentious line that stated “Sita is India’s daughter” was removed from the film, the Nepali censor board approved the movie. Tomorrow in Kathmandu, though, there may still be some blowback for the movie.
On Thursday, June 15, the makers of the movie organized a special screening event in Mumbai before the movie’s global theater premiere. The film’s actors, crew, and their families were the only people invited to the ceremony. Due to their busy schedules, the movie’s main actor Prabhas and the villain Saif Ali Khan, who plays the role of Lankesh, were unable to attend.
