Ever since it was first published on Mya 5, The Kerala Story has dominated news headlines. The experiences of Hindu women from Kerala who converted to Islam and were then smuggled to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) are the center of the movie. Adah Sharma, who plays the protagonist in the movie, said in a recent interview that she was anxious about presenting the movie to her grandma because of some of the “disturbing” and “rape” sequences.
“My mom and grandma were aware of the tale. Granny's response worried me, particularly after seeing those rape images. I was solely worried about how she would handle all those upsetting situations, she said to DNA.
Adah said that her grandma found the video to be “educational and informative” after seeing it. “I'll confess that the strongest (member) is my 90-year-old grandmother. She declared the film to be instructive and interesting after seeing it, adding, “I want all my students to watch it.” I informed her that it was an adult movie, but she argued that it ought to have been rated U/A so that even younger girls could see it, become aware of it, and become more watchful.
The Kerala Story is now closing in on the Rs 200 crore milestone at the box office. Adah said in a recent interview with News18 Showsha that she never anticipated the movie to do as well as it did at the box office. She acknowledged that she had never anticipated “crores of people” watching her film.
“I don't know all these numbers; I'm an actor. All of this is done in the hopes that viewers will come. I felt certain that if people saw this, they would identify emotionally with it. The movie has a lot of mother-daughter emotion. When I heard the script, that's what really got to me. It's an eerie thing. It is terrible. I believed that it would be successful if the viewers could relate to the mother and daughter. But I wasn't prepared for this. I didn't anticipate it to be seen by so many millions of people,” she told us.
